Adobe AIR Deal with blocked Adobe AIR installation

After couple of weeks of vacation, I find my Windows Server at work with messed up adobe air

I come this morning to the office and I find that every Adobe AIR .air gives me the same message : The version this software was written for is not supported yet please contact the software author. Hmmm … @#%#@&

The thing is I get this error for apps written for the 1.0 as well … That’s strange since I spoke with the Adobe people yesterday at the Adobe AIR conference in Prague and they said they don’t have any plans for version 2.0 yet.

I can’t remove the current installation from the so called “Add and remove programs” blah ! It’s so much easier in the mac you just drag to the trash bin … anyways.

Here is how to uninstall a messed Adobe AIR installation :

1. Download the latest installation from adobe : http://get.adobe.com/air/

2.  Go to the command prompt (by typing “cmd” in the run dialogue, for the ones who don’t know)

3. Start the Adobe AIR Runtime installation  with parameter “-uninstall” eg. “AdobeAIRInstaller.exe -uninstall”

Now the app does some magic in the console but eventually finds all versions you have and sweeps them away, cool no ?

    Hi Marin,

Uggh, sorry for the trouble. By chance did you have a beta 3 version of AIR installed?

    Hi Rob,

no trouble at all, i’m glad someone’s reading out there :)

I’m AIR enthusiast since last summer or so, so I’m testing all apps I can find out there - and on your question - yes I had beta 3 and AIR 1.0 installed together (also the update - 1.0.1)

    Hey Marin,

Thanks for coming to Prague! Do you have a small sampling of the AIR apps you were trying? Feel free to email me with any questions.

Unfortunately this trick won’t help me to uninstall corrupted AIR installation..
    1. When I’m running latest AdobeAIRInstaller.exe it quickly do some actions and Ta-da!! it tells me AIR is installed sucsessfully!! sure BUt this is not true.

when I’m trying to run any AIR files like
    - Adobe AIR Application Installer.exe
    - Adobe AIR Updater.exe
    - airappinstaller.exe
    - and so on..

    I’m getting this nasty message:

    —————————
    Adobe AIR
    —————————
Для работы данного приложения требуется Adobe AIR.
    Загрузите последнюю версию
    с сайта http://www.adobe.com/go/getair_ru, затем запустите
    приложение снова.

    Privet Shurik,

that’s indeed the same problem I was having - any AIR file or the uninstall of AIR as well was giving me basically the same message (but in english, lol) …

Thing is the solution I described in this post really worked for me perfectly …

The only thing I’m getting in mind is … maybe you can try to download the english version of the AIR installer, and try the “-uninstall” option from the shell. I really don’t know if it is going to make any difference but if anything else fails, maybe is worth a try :)

Let me know if that’ll work for you :) I’m going to think also of anything else that you might try, wish you best of luck

This is a beautiful fix! I installed Adobe 9 and AIR was bundled with it and I could not get rid of AIR. Thank you so much!

To think that my husband was telling me yesterday that there is no need for a command prompt on a PC…

PS: I hope it works with Acrobat.com.
